Elia, a beautiful person inside and out, is a 53 year old mother of 7 children. She has two girls and five boys; ages 13, 14, 16, 18, 27, 29 and 33. Two of her children have grown and married, but the rest live with her and her husband.
Her enjoyment of knitting and crocheting, skills which she learned 40 years ago from the Dominican Sisters, Sister Lucia and Sister Clara, has been passed along to her youngest son who crochets with her. He will often accompany her on the 3 mile walk to the crochet group and help in making several items. Despite her reluctance to receive praise and attention for her own work, she takes great pride in pointing out her son’s talent.
When asked what Santa Rosa Stitches has done for her, her response echoes that of many of the woman; “When I sell things I can help buy food for my family and help pay tuition so all of my boys can study.”
